On April 25, four students were a part of a special luncheon in celebration of Edgecombe Community College’s Medical Assisting Class of 2025. Now ECC graduates, all four are employed after receiving a 100 percent pass rate on their national exam on the first attempt.

Medical Assisting is a two-year degree program that prepares healthcare professionals to perform administrative and clinical functions, as well as lab procedures. Credits transfer to four-year institutions, and graduates can become a supervisor or manager of a medical office.

Kiara Bethea, certified medical assistant, also received the Maxine Williams Award. Named after the first president of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), this is the highest award given to medical assisting students at ECC. The Maxine Williams Award is presented to the student with the highest overall grade point average, demonstrating proficiency in all areas of medical assisting.

In addition to their Associate of Applied Science degree in medical assisting, the graduates also earned their clinical and Electronic Health Record certificates.
