New York Theatre Ballet Performs at ECC on March 19

Making its eighth appearance in the Edgecombe Performance Series, the New York Theatre Ballet will perform at Edgecombe Community College on March 19.

New York Theatre Ballet continues its milestone 40th anniversary season with a return to Tarboro in March through the Edgecombe Performance Series.

This year marks the eighth year that NYTB has performed in the Edgecombe Performance Series. The March 19 performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Keihin Auditorium in the Fleming Building on the Tarboro campus.

The evening of mixed repertoire features music performed by new NYTB pianist and Tarboro native Alice Hargrove.

NYTB also welcomes guest artist Jessica Doyle-Mekkes, a local soprano and teaching instructor of voice at the East Carolina University School of Theatre and Dance.

Works this year include Antony Tudor’s “Soirée Musicale”; Diana and Acteon pas de deux from “Esmeralda”; Richard Alston’s “The Small Sonata”; and Agnes de Mille’s original Broadway dances from “Carousel,” “Brigadoon,” and “Oklahoma!”

With its ever-expanding repertory, NYTB’s cutting-edge programming brings fresh insight to classic revivals paired with the modern sensibilities of both established and up-and-coming choreographers.

Going strong after 40 years, NYTB’s diversity in repertory explores the past while taking risks on the future with respected programs, including NYTB/Chamber Works with REP, the “Once Upon a Ballet” series, NYTB School, and LIFT Community Services Program.

Sponsored by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library, the NYTB performance at ECC on March 19 is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.

Tickets are available through the ECC Box Office on the Tarboro campus. For more information, please call Cultural Arts Director Eric Greene at (252) 618-6618.
