Respiratory Therapy Earns Continued Accreditation

Tim King, program chair of Respiratory Therapy at Edgecombe Community College, teaches a class. The program recently received continued accreditation from its national accrediting body.

The Respiratory Therapy program at Edgecombe Community College has received continuing accreditation by the national Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

According to a letter from a CoARC official, “The program met or exceeded all currently set thresholds for success on each of the required outcome measures. This is an accomplishment of which you, your staff, and institution should be proud.”

“We are excited and energized by our continued accreditation,” says Tim King, program chair of ECC’s Respiratory Therapy program. “This validates that we have an exceptional program. It validates the quality education that we offer.”

Respiratory Therapy at ECC is a five-semester degree program. Respiratory therapists care for patients who have trouble breathing, for example, from a chronic respiratory disease, such as asthma or emphysema.

In addition to continued accreditation, King says he’s also proud of the 100% job placement rate for Respiratory Therapy graduates in recent years. “The graduate and employer surveys that are conducted as part of the ongoing accreditation process attest to the fact that exceptional program outcomes can become a reality when the college, adjunct clinical facilities, students, and faculty work together.”
