Six Smokin’ Bones Opens at ECC

Edgecombe Community College students and employees have a new dining option. Six Smokin’ Bones, owned and operated by Audra Walton, recently opened in the student lounge on the Tarboro campus.

Walton has operated a successful food truck for five years, and she says moving into the Tarboro location was a unique opportunity to expand her business.

“I enjoying coming here every day,” Walton said recently while preparing breakfast orders. “The response has been good, and I like meeting and getting to know the students and staff.”

Six Smokin’ Bones serves breakfast and lunch on the Tarboro campus Monday through Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walton’s food truck, also called Six Smokin’ Bones, operates on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 326 Hill Street, which is a block from the College’s Rocky Mount campus.

“Students from the Rocky Mount campus have always been customers at my food truck,” she said.

“Lunch is really good,” noted Edgecombe Early College High School student Mary Moseley. “It’s nice to have a hot food option on campus, and it’s not that expensive,” added Destiny Wright, also an Early College student.

For students who do not have transportation, Six Smokin’ Bones provides more substantial fare than vending machine snacks, said ECC President Dr. Greg McLeod, who often enjoys breakfast in the Tarboro student lounge. “We are pleased to provide a new dining option for our students,” he said. “The prices are very reasonable, and the food is delicious.”

Daily breakfast items include sausage, bacon, eggs, and pancakes. Daily lunch items include burgers, hot dogs, and chicken tenders, with alternating weekly lunch specials, such as a fish plate and club sandwich.

The Six Smokin’ Bones food truck offers a more expanded menu because Walton has access to additional equipment there, she explained. “Oxtails with rice, cabbage, and mac ’n’ cheese is very popular, and we also have turkey wings and pork chops with gravy, to name a few. Come give us a try!”
