Edgecombe Community College will discontinue participation in the Federal Direct Loan Program after the Summer 2026 term. The College will no longer originate or certify Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loans for enrollment periods beginning Fall 2026 and beyond.
The College is focusing on reducing student debt and expanding access to grants, scholarships, payment plans, employer sponsorships, veterans’ education benefits, and other lower-cost funding options to support student success and completion.
Yes. Students enrolled through Summer 2026 who meet all federal eligibility requirements and have accepted loans for that term may still receive Federal Direct Loans, in accordance with U.S. Department of Education regulations.
No. Federal Direct Loans will not be available for any term beginning Fall 2026 or later.

ECC does not recommend specific lenders. Students may choose any private educational loan lender. If the College posts lender information, it will comply with all U.S. Department of Education Preferred Lender List regulations and required disclosures.
VA education benefits (Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, etc.) will not be affected. Students using VA benefits should continue to work with the School Certifying Official to ensure timely certification.
