Celebrating ECC’s SkillsUSA Winners

Edgecombe Community College students excelled at the recent SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held in Greensboro, N.C. April 9-11 that annually attracts 3,000 students. At 55 students, its largest number of participants ever, the SkillsECC team took home 17 awards across a number of trade, technical and skilled service fields.

The public is invited to a celebration of these award winners happening Wednesday, April 30 from 3pm to 5pm in the multipurpose room of the Barnhill-Jenkins Center for Innovation. Attendees can meet ECC’s SkillsUSA competitors and see their projects on display. Participants competed in categories like metalworking, carpentry, engineering, barbering, cosmetology and more.

According to the organization’s website, “SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure that America has a skilled workforce.”

ECC won eight first-place awards, one second-place award, five third-place awards, two fourth-place awards and one fifth-place award. Seven winners will advance to the national competition in Atlanta, Ga. June 23-27.
