ECC Celebrates Black History
Edgecombe Community College celebrated Black History Month on both campuses this week.
On Monday, February 27, Felicia Lucas, a minister, author, and motivational speaker, spoke to an audience on the Tarboro campus on “The Power of a Dream: Make the Dream Happen.”
On Tuesday, February 28, Dr. Shelton Jefferies, superintendent of Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, presented remarks on “Reflections of Royalty” to an audience on the Rocky Mount campus.
Staff and students presented information about the development of Black History Month and shared facts about famous black Americans. Several staff and students also performed musical selections and, at the Tarboro event, presented a dramatic presentation of the poem “Ain’t I a Woman” by Sojourner Truth.
Both events were sponsored by the college’s Division of College and Career Readiness.
