ECC Named Military Friendly College
For the second year in a row, Edgecombe Community College has been recognized nationally as a school that helps military veterans succeed.
The College was recently designated a 2021 Military Friendly College by Intelligent.com, a resource for online degree rankings and higher education planning.
Intelligent.com conferred the designation on 49 colleges nationwide. The only other North Carolina school that received the distinction is the University of North Carolina Wilmington. ECC was ranked #20 and listed as “Best for Associate Degrees.”
“Being Military Friendly is a daily goal here at ECC, and to receive this recognition and award is quite an honor,” says Angie Estes, advisor and VA coordinator in the Office of Financial Aid. “It is such a privilege to work with the men and women of the military and their families to help them through their college journey.”
About 50 ECC students are veterans or active duty military. To recognize veterans, ECC hosts special events, including the Veterans Day Memorial and Recognition Ceremony in November. Among other targeted services, ECC recently installed reserved parking spaces for vets or active duty military.
Intelligent.com calculated the 2021 rankings through a unique scoring system that included student engagement, potential return on investment, and leading third-party evaluations. Intelligent.com analyzed 151 schools, on a scale of 0 to 100, with only 49 making it to the final list. The methodology also uses an algorithm which collects and analyzes multiple rankings into one score to easily compare each school.
