First Tackle the Tar Will Support Local College Scholarships
The first ever mud run is coming to Rocky Mount on Saturday, May 14, at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.
Tackle the Tar, hosted by the Rocky Mount Rotary Club, will be filled with family friendly fun, comradery, and charity. The festivities will include a 5K mud run complete with an obstacle course, live music, food trucks, bounce houses, beer and wine, entertainment, and more.
Funds raised from Tackle the Tar will go toward scholarships for local students to attend local colleges. This helps students from the Rocky Mount and surrounding communities attend Edgecombe Community College, Nash Community College, or North Carolina Wesleyan College for a largely discounted cost – resulting in a win-win situation for the entire community.
The first heat of the 5K will begin at 10 a.m., and festivities will continue throughout the day. Cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000, and $500 will be awarded to the top three performers in the timed heats of the 5K run. To overcome the obstacles, participants should be prepared to climb walls, scale under wire, and race through sections of mud.
The Rocky Mount Rotary Club is currently looking for additional sponsors to help support the event. Several levels of sponsorships are available to accommodate all types of businesses and donors.
Sponsors can be confident their support will be recognized and appreciated as Tackle the Tar will be a highly-publicized event in the Rocky Mount community. All sponsors will receive runner tickets free of charge, publicity listings, and a host of other benefits, as well as the satisfaction of helping a student attend college, helping the community at large, and helping build recognition for their businesses. “You will not want to miss all of the action and fun at our first annual Tackle the Tar event on Saturday, May 14,” says Kristen Brabble, chair of Tackle the Tar. “This family-friendly event not only will provide attendees with a fun and exciting experience, but it will also support local students having the chance of a lifetime and pursuing their educational goals by attending college.
“This event is a no-brainer for our local communities as it empowers these students to continue their education and contribute to our local economy. It is no doubt that education is an important key to personal attainment as well as a contributor to the economic development of our region. I highly encourage you and your companies to attend and support Rocky Mount’s first ever mud run.”
