Industry Leader to Headline Global Education Symposium

Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 15.

Norris Tolson, CEO and president of Carolinas Gateway Partnership, will deliver the keynote address on global trade at the Global Education Spring Symposium at Edgecombe Community College on Thursday, March 15, at 3 p.m. in McBryde Auditorium, Biotechnology and Medical Simulation Center, Rocky Mount campus.

At 3 p.m., Norris Tolson, CEO and president of Carolinas Gateway Partnership, will give the keynote address during the Global Education Spring Symposium at Edgecombe Community College.

Scheduled for Thursday-Friday, March 15-16, the symposium will be held on the College’s Rocky Mount campus. The theme of the two-day event is global trade.

The symposium is free and open to the public.

Tolson will deliver his remarks in McBryde Auditorium in the Biotechnology and Medical Simulation Center.

According to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, nearly one in five jobs in the state is tied to international trade.

Thanks to its central Atlantic coast location and strong communications, education, and transportation infrastructures, eastern North Carolina is ideally suited for global business and industry.

International companies are already finding success in Edgecombe County. ABB Inc. is based in Switzerland; Keihin Carolina Systems Technology, Japan; and Farmtrac, India, to name a few.

Triangle Tire Co., based in China, recently announced plans to build two manufacturing plants in Edgecombe County.

Corning Inc. has announced plans to build a global distribution center in Edgecombe. Headquartered in New York, Corning employs approximately 45,000 worldwide.

The theme of global trade will unite other presentations during the symposium. Panel discussions and concurrent sessions will focus on medical tourism, cryptocurrency, immigration, and bitcoin digital currency, among other topics.

The Global Education Spring Symposium is sponsored by the Diversity and Global Connections Committee to bring cultural awareness to the College and local community.
