Law Enforcement Organization Supports BLET
The Edgecombe County Law Enforcement Association has presented the Edgecombe Community College Foundation with a generous donation of nearly $30,000.
The gift will support scholarships for qualified students enrolled in Basic Law Enforcement Training at ECC.
According to BLET School Director Bernie Taylor, funds will be used to help offset the cost of required uniforms and other mandatory materials.
Since the College’s first BLET Academy in 2015, 35 cadets have completed the intensive 20-week program. Many of these graduates are employed in local law enforcement agencies.
ECC’s BLET is unique in that it includes training in high-risk calls and certification in the police shotgun, taser, expandable batons, and pepper spray. Graduates also receive 18 college credit hours toward an associate degree in criminal justice.
The College’s next BLET Academy begins in February 2018. To learn more, contact taylorb@edgecombe.edu.
