New EV Charging Station at ECC Unveiled
Edgecombe Community College and City of Rocky Mount officials gathered in December for a ribbon-cutting to unveil an electric vehicle charging station on the Rocky Mount campus.
The city owns the public charging station, which is located next to the Barbering Building.
“We were happy to partner with the city on this project. We welcome EV drivers to charge their vehicles while they visit our library, shop in the Campus Store, get a haircut, take a class, or attend an event,” says ECC President Dr. Greg McLeod.
The Level 2 charging station can charge two vehicles simultaneously and is one of two city-owned public EV charging stations. The other is in the Station Square parking lot.
The new charging station is the most recent clean energy partnership at the college.
Last summer, Edgecombe high school students met on the Tarboro campus to learn about clean energy through the STEPs4GROWTH EV Pre-Apprenticeship Program. The program focused on clean vehicles.
Nine students completed the eight-week program, earning certifications in OSHA 10, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Working Smart, and Pre-Apprenticeship through ApprenticeshipNC. Students also received a weekly stipend.
STEPs4GROWTH is a clean energy workforce development project funded by a grant from the US Department of Commerce and led by NC A&T University.
The program will be offered at ECC again this year. To learn more, please contact Paige Ashman at ashmanp@edgecombe.edu.
