SkillsECC Teams Win Top Prizes at State SkillsUSA Conference
Eighteen Edgecombe Community College students competed in the SkillsUSA North Carolina State Leadership and Skills Conference in Greensboro last week and brought home 15 awards.
The students and their faculty advisors were among the more than 2,500 students, instructors, industry members, and volunteers at the conference, which is the largest showcase of career and technical education in the state. The event was held April 26-28.
About 1,800 high school and post-secondary students competed in more than 106 different skills and leadership competitions.
From left, placing 1st in Career Pathways Showcase – Industrial/Engineering were Kaitlyn Tripp, Jilianne Leary, and Ruben Gaytan-Ledezma. They were advised by Rebecca Stamillio Ehret.
Misty Elaine Griffin, Lachelle Archer, and Elizabeth Cross placed 1st in Career Pathways Showcase – Human Services. Rick Basile was their advisor.
Larry Peaden captured 1st place in Criminal Justice. He was advised by Rick Basile.
Emilee Moore and Isaac Carlos placed 1st in Engineering Technology and Design. Tim Boyd was their advisor.
Onix Terevinto (left) placed 4th and Bruce Bell placed 2nd in Hair Coloring. Also on their team were Stephanie Anne Cook and Michaela Norville. The cosmetology team was advised by Carolyn Sherrill.
From left, Teamworks members Cole Bost, Ontrel Bobbitt, Chandler Myrick, and Merdikae Williams placed 1st in their construction competition. Teamworks was advised by Dave Rummel.
In addition, Donta Devon Lawrence competed in the Automotive Refinishing Technology competition. He was advised by Kevin Strickland and Bud Speight.
