Special Acoustic Concert Set for October 3

An acoustic concert featuring Lightnin’ Wells and Eric Greene is set for Tuesday, October 3, at 1 p.m. in Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College.

Edgecombe Community College is inviting the community to join the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the College during the first week of October. A highlight of the week will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, when the public is invited to a special lunchtime acoustic concert featuring local musician Lightnin’ Wells and guitarist Eric Greene.

Lightnin’ Wells is well-known as a Piedmont Blues specialist and for his multi-talented skills with a wide variety of stringed instruments including banjo, guitar, ukulele, and more. His repertoire includes blues, bluegrass, country, and traditional American Songbook tunes, as well as his own original arrangements.

As he introduces each piece, he likes to share the history of the selection, perhaps leading to the title of the concert, “Songs and Stories.” His newest recording, “Oh Lightnin’, Where Art Thou?” will be available for purchase.

ECC Cultural Arts Director Eric Greene has served Edgecombe County and the College since 1995, coordinating programming in the performing arts, managing Keihin Auditorium, and scheduling the annual ECC Performing Arts Series.

Greene is talented guitarist who has taught students and entertained audiences throughout the area. However, this will be his first concert in Keihin in more than ten years.

“I am really looking forward to this event,” says Greene. “Not only will I have the opportunity to perform with Lightnin’ Wells, whom I admire greatly, we will be on stage in Keihin Auditorium, which has great acoustics. The venue is perfect for this kind of program.”

Community members are invited to bring their lunch to the Tarboro campus and eat in Mobley Atrium beginning at 12 p.m. prior to the free concert in Keihin Auditorium at 1 p.m. Tables and chairs will be set up in the atrium for the lunch gathering, and vending machines are nearby for beverages and snacks. (Food is not permitted in the auditorium.)

Later in the month, on October 29, the ECC Performing Arts Series will open with a free afternoon performance by the Pitt Community College Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Stephenson. The annual Holiday Pops Concert performed by the North Carolina Symphony will take place on the evening of December 6, and three more events are planned for the spring.
