Strategic Twin-Counties Educational Partnership to Hold Educational Summit

Strategic Twin-Counties Educational Partnership (STEP) along with area educational partners will host the Twin Counties Education and Business Leaders Summit on Thursday, August 10.

The event will be held in Nash Community College’s Brown Auditorium. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the 8-9:30 a.m. program.

Assistant Secretary of Workforce Solutions Will Collins of the N.C. Department of Commerce will be the guest speaker.

Presenters from Edgecombe Community College, Edgecombe County Public Schools, Nash Community College, and Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools also will share updates.

Collins has more than thirty years of experience in human resources and economic development, with experience in private sector manufacturing, the community college system’s customized training program, and leadership in international business. He has served as assistant secretary of commerce responsible for the Division of Workforce Solutions since December 2013.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about ways to engage with local educational partners.

“The goal of the summit is to bring together local K-12 and higher education partners with the business and industry community to discuss opportunities for partnership, improvement, and enhancement in the Edgecombe and Nash area,” STEP Executive Director Pam Gould says.

“We hope the community will join the conversation as educational and workforce leaders focus on the theme of unity addressing common goals and ways to maximize collaborative opportunities for a stronger and better prepared workforce.”

The mission of Strategic Twin-Counties Educational Partnership is to work to improve the education of PreK-14 in Nash and Edgecombe counties by facilitating collaboration by all groups involved and interested in public education.
