Edgecombe Community College Appoints New Executive Director

Tameka Kenan-Norman

Tameka Kenan-Norman has been named executive director of public information and institutional advancement at Edgecombe Community College.

The more than 20-year communications veteran most recently worked as a news anchor for WBOC-TV, a CBS affiliate in Salisbury, Md. Prior to that, she gained grant writing and development experience as the chief development and communications officer at SHORE UP! Inc., a nonprofit that serves a seven-county area on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Kenan-Norman may be a familiar face to some. The Wallace, N.C. native worked seven years for the city of Rocky Mount. She began with the city as the public information officer and was ultimately promoted to chief communications and marketing officer.

Kenan-Norman also worked as an assistant director of public relations and marketing for South Carolina State University. Additionally, she held various roles in a more than 10-year radio career, including production director for Entercom Communications in Greensboro, N.C.; morning show co-host and copywriter for Beasley Broadcasting in Fayetteville, N.C.; and mid-day host and music director for Citadel Broadcasting in Charleston, S.C.

“I am excited to have Tameka Kenan-Norman join our team here at Edgecombe Community College,” says Dr. Greg McLeod, president of ECC. “I believe that her experience and familiarity with Edgecombe County, the City of Rocky Mount and Eastern North Carolina, will further strengthen our fundraising efforts and marketing initiatives.”

In her new role, Kenan-Norman will oversee and implement fundraising and giving opportunities for the ECC Foundation. She will also lead campaigns that directly impact the image of the college as portrayed through publications, promotions, and external communications.

“I am honored to join a team who has already done a fantastic job of telling the many distinct stories of the college and students who exhibit tremendous talent,” says Kenan-Norman. “I hope to leverage my skills to continue sharing that story with those in Edgecombe County and beyond. I will also strive to work with various companies and individuals who can offer the necessary resources to continue the impactful work of the college.”

Kenan-Norman holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Fayetteville State University and a master’s degree in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
