Multifactor authentication is a login method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application or online account. To complete a MFA login at ECC, you will enter your password and then provide a verification code received through a smartphone authenticator app, text message, or automated phone call.
Over 80% of cyber breaches happen due to weak or stolen passwords. Simply put, MFA can provide the added layers of security necessary to protect users and data. Not only is it good practice, but also it is required by the FTC Safeguards Rule. Compliance with this rule is a requirement of the Title IV Program Participation Agreement in order for ECC to offer Federal student financial assistance.
No. Using a smartphone app is not a requirement for MFA, you may choose to receive call or text verifications. If you do not own a cell phone, contact the ECC Computer Services Department to request a security token device.
