Safety and Security

Emergency Alerts

Edgecombe Community College uses multiple communication methods to notify students, employees, and visitors of emergencies and other urgent situations.

Rave Campus Alerts

Rave provides emergency notifications by text message, voice call, and email.

Students

  • Students are automatically enrolled to receive emergency text alerts at the mobile phone number on file with Student Services.
  • Students also receive emergency notifications through their College email.
  • Students can review or update their emergency alert contact information by accessing Rave through MyApps.

Employees

  • Employees receive emergency notifications through their College email by default.
  • Employees who would also like to receive text alerts can opt in by accessing Rave through MyApps.
  • Employees may also subscribe to text alerts by texting ECCALERTS to 67283.

Visitors and Community Members

Visitors and community members may subscribe to ECC emergency text alerts by texting ECCALERTS to 67283.

Lynx Alert System

The College also uses a campus emergency alert system to broadcast emergency messages through computers and speakers located throughout campus. These notifications may provide instructions such as lockdown, evacuation, severe weather sheltering, or other emergency actions.

Emergency alerts are intended to provide information and instructions during an incident. They are not a substitute for reporting an emergency. If you are in immediate danger or need emergency assistance, call 911.

Security Cameras

The College utilizes security cameras in select areas of campus to support safety and security efforts. Cameras are not continuously monitored and should not be relied upon for immediate emergency response. In an emergency, call 911.

Emergency Response Structure

Emergency Response Team (ERT)

Edgecombe Community College maintains an Emergency Response Team to coordinate the College’s response during major emergencies. The team works with Campus Security, College leadership, and local law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and other emergency responders as appropriate.

When outside emergency responders are involved, the College follows their direction and coordinates College resources in support of the response.

The College maintains and periodically reviews its Emergency Response Plan to support preparedness, response, and recovery.
