Scholarships are the most sought-after type of financial assistance by college students because the money does not have to be repaid. North Carolina, the Edgecombe Community College Foundation, and area businesses and organizations offer an array of scholarships for which students can apply.
Outside Scholarships
Many organizations offer scholarships based on place of residence, background, professional affiliations and/or field of study. Each has its own eligibility requirements and application deadline.
Students should search and apply for outside scholarships independently. Many free scholarship search sites are online, and books listing available scholarships can be found in bookstores and libraries.
Any student offered an outside scholarship should provide a copy of the offer notice to the Financial Aid Office to ensure that funds are available in a timely manner. Scholarship checks from outside donors should include your name and ECC ID number and be sent to:

North Carolina Community College System Scholarship Guide
The North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Office presents the 2023-2024 Scholarship Guide: Eligibility Criteria and Guidelines for Scholarship Administration. This guide covers the scope of scholarships from state, corporate and private sponsors for North Carolina Community college students. This guide is for informational purposes and may not contain a complete listing of all scholarships for students attending NC community colleges. All applications should be completed and submitted to the Edgecombe Community College (ECC) Financial Aid Office FAO. Edgecombe Community College Foundation Scholarships
The college offers Foundation scholarships each year, totaling more than $60,000. Requirements for scholarships vary; however, the primary criteria include financial need, scholastic ability, specified program of study, residency status, and participation in community activities. Applications must be returned to a financial aid office by the established deadline. Students who submit incomplete applications are not considered. Most scholarships are awarded during the fall and spring semesters, and are disbursed in two even payments. The following is a listing of scholarships currently offered by the college.
