Applied Engineering Technology - Curriculum

Applied Engineering Technology is a course of study that prepares the students to use basic engineering principles and technical skills to solve technical problems in various types of industry. The course work emphasizes analytical and problem solving skills. The curriculum includes courses in safety, math, physics, electricity, engineering technology, and specialty areas. Graduates should qualify for employment in a wide range of positions in research and development, manufacturing, sales, design, inspection, or maintenance. Employment opportunities exist in automation, computer, electrical, industrial, or mechanical engineering fields, where graduates will function as engineering technicians.

Applied Engineering Technology - Program Outcomes

  1. Mathematics: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the mathematical skills required for performing jobs using related engineering and technology skill sets.
  2. Physics and Engineering Sciences: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the sciences and engineering/technology principles to perform tasks as an engineering technician.
  3. Material Science: Students will demonstrate an understanding of materials used in manufacturing processes and demonstrate application of design and process constraints of the materials.
  4. Product Design: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the technologies and concepts used to design products.
  5. Manufacturing Processes: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the processes used to design and produce products.
  6. Production Systems: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the various systems used to control and coordinate production, gather data, and process the data.
  7. Automated Systems and Control: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the equipment and controllers utilized in automated processes.
  8. Quality Systems: Students will demonstrate an understanding of production quality concepts and design of quality management systems.
  9. Engineering Management Systems: Students will demonstrate an understanding of management concepts to create effective organizational outcomes.
