  Community College Course Equivalencies With UNC Institutions

  All campuses of the University of North Carolina system accept many community college courses as equivalencies to courses on their campuses; even some courses that are not included in the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees. See how courses you take at ECC will be transferred to these particular campuses.

  Comprehensive Articulation Agreements with the University of North Carolina and Signatory Independent Colleges and Universities in North Carolina

  In an effort to simplify and facilitate transfer of credit between community colleges and public and private colleges and universities in North Carolina, the State Board of Community Colleges has developed separate agreements with the University of North Carolina System and signatory independent colleges and universities in North Carolina. The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with the University of North Carolina System and the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with specific private colleges and universities in North Carolina, address the transfer of students from North Carolina community colleges to public and private colleges and universities in North Carolina.

  The major provision of both comprehensive articulation agreements allows students who complete the A.A. or A.S. degree requirements at any community college to transfer to constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina and relevant private colleges and universities with junior status, considering them to have fulfilled the lower division, general education requirements of the receiving institution.

  Community college graduates who have earned 60-61 semester hours of academic credit in approved college transfer courses with a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale will receive at least 60-61 semester hours of academic credit upon admission to relevant colleges and universities covered under these agreements. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions. Courses offered through bilateral agreements may not transfer to all receiving institutions.

  In the course of their degree program, students will take courses aligned with a four-year degree pathway from a university of their choosing. Within their A.A. or A.S. program students may decide to choose a particular pathway of courses outlined by a four-year institution where they intend to transfer. Or, students may choose an ECC-designed pathway that contains courses typically accepted in most four-year programs in the pathway area. As they are developed, these pathways will be made available to students through the ACA 122 course, as well as through their college transfer advisors.

  East Carolina University Pirate Promise Co-Admission Program

  Edgecombe Community College has partnered with East Carolina University to help promote a seamless transition for college transfer students to the university. ECU’s Pirate Promise Co-Admissions Program allows students, while enrolled at ECC, begin to benefit from a variety of ECU services prior to full transferring. Specifically, Pirate Promise students will have the following benefits:

  • Guaranteed admission to ECU (note – admission to certain degree-completion programs are departmental decisions)
  • Shared electronic records management system
  • Waived ECU transfer application fee
  • Joint academic advising
  • Joint financial aid counseling and co-admission micro-scholarship opportunities
  • Eligibility to receive an ECU One Card (student ID card)
  • Eligibility for Student Pirate Club Membership
  • Access to ECU Libraries
  • Access to programming through the Office of Student Activities and Organizations at ECU
  • Access to NCCCS Event days on ECU’s campus

  Requirements to participate in the Pirate Promise Program are as follows:

  • Students must be a junior in an Early College or CCP program prior to applying for the program.
  • Submit a complete co-admissions application and official high school transcripts or GED scores.
  • Commit to full-time status (a minimum of 12 semester hours) at Edgecombe Community College.
  • Students must complete the requirements for an eligible two year degree.
  • Prior to graduating with associate degree (4-6 months recommended) students must complete an application to ECU and meet admissions requirements as stated in the ECU Undergraduate Catalog (including a cumulative 2.5 minimum GPA).

  ECC-Designed Pathway in Pre-Engineering

  Students earning an Associate of Science degree may pursue a pathway in Pre-Engineering. Students interested in this pathway should contact Rebecca Stamilio-Ehret, Pre-Engineering Pathway Coordinator, for courses required to transfer to four-year engineering programs, (252) 618-6659.

  Elizabeth City State University Co-Admission Program

  Edgecombe Community College has partnered with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) to help promote a seamless transition for college transfer students to the university. ECSU’s Co-Admissions Program allows students, while enrolled at ECC, to begin to benefit from a variety of ECSU services prior to transferring. Specifically, ECSU’s Co-Admissions Program will provide students the following benefits:

  • Guaranteed admission to ECSU upon completion of a qualifying degree plan;
  • Waived ECSU application fee;
  • Guaranteed admission to ECSU majors and programs of study (subject to specific requirements for certain programs);
  • Regularly scheduled onsite ECSU Transfer Admission Counselor as the Point of Contact (POC);
  • Joint academic advising – ECSU program of study faculty will be assigned to participants;
  • Assistance with active duty and veteran education benefits and resources;
  • Scheduled on-site classroom presentations by ECSU faculty;
  • Joint financial aid counseling; ECSU financial aid point of contact will be available;
  • Eligibility to receive an ECSU student ID card, which provides student rates/admission to athletic events, etc.;
  • Access to the ECSU Library online resources;
  • Access to programming through the Office of Student Activities and Organizations at ECSU;
  • Access to North Carolina Community College System Event Days on ECSU’s campus.

  Requirements:

  • Students must be in their first year of community college enrollment prior to applying for co-admission.
  • Students must submit a complete co-admissions application (currently being developed; email Bruce Panneton at pannetonb@edgecombe.edu for more information on obtaining the form to complete) and official high school transcripts or GED scores.
  • Students must be enrolled in an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree program (a minimum of 12 semester hours), maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, and complete program requirements at Edgecombe Community College.
  • Prior to registering for ECSU classes, students must provide immunization documentation, complete the Campus Safety Questions form, and meet other ECSU admissions requirements.

  Additional Requirements for Specific ECSU Programs

  The following requirements apply for co-admission into the ECSU Teacher Education program:

  • Complete the Teacher Education Application;
  • Meet with an advisor;
  • Submit a criminal background check with certifiedbackground.com;
  • Complete 15 hours of field experience and EDUC 210;
  • Have a 2.8 GPA or higher;
  • Complete a satisfactory interview;
  • Submit an acceptable writing sample;
  • Satisfy Praxis Core or have acceptable SAT / ACT scores.

  The following requirements apply for co-admission into the ECSU Social Work program:

  • Complete ENGL 102, ENGL 103, SOWK 205, BIO 100 or 207, SOC 201 and PSY 212;
  • Meet with an advisor;
  • Submit departmental Application for Admission;
  • Complete a Personal Statement administered by the Social Work faculty;
  • Submit two letters of recommendation;
  • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher;
  • Agree to abide by ECSU policies and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.

  Criminal Justice

  Edgecombe Community College (ECC) has partnered with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) to allow ECC graduates of the Criminal Justice Degree Program (A55180) to be admitted into ECSU’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Program, a totally online degree program at ECSU. Below are specific requirements for this program.

  Requirements:

  • Students must complete their Criminal Justice Degree Program (A55180) at ECC with a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students must meet all ECSU admissions requirements.
  • ECSU will accept up to 65 semester hour of credit from the ECC degree program, for courses earning at least a grade of a C.
  • ECSU courses accepted from ECC are based on the agreed upon degree crosswalk.

  Business Administration

  Edgecombe Community College (ECC) has partnered with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) to allow ECC graduates of the Business Administration Degree Program (A25120) to be admitted into ECSU’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Program, a totally online degree program at ECSU. Below are specific requirements for this program.

  Requirements:

  • Students must complete their Business Administration Degree Program (A25120) at ECC with a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students must meet all ECSU admissions requirements.
  • ECSU will accept up to 65 semester hour of credit from the ECC degree program, for courses earning at least a grade of a C.
  • ECSU courses accepted from ECC are based on the agreed upon degree crosswalk.

  Birth Through Kindergarten

  Edgecombe Community College (ECC) has partnered with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) to allow ECC graduates of the Early Childhood Education Degree Program (A55220) to be admitted into ECSU’s Bachelor of Science in Birth Through Kindergarten Program, a totally online degree program at ECSU. Below are specific requirements for this program.

  Requirements:

  • Students must complete their Early Childhood Education Degree Program (A55220) at ECC with a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students must meet all ECSU admissions requirements.

  Partnership Teach

  Through a unique partnership with East Carolina University’s (ECU) School of Education and the State Employee’s Credit Union (SECU), you can begin your journey to earning a teaching degree at Edgecombe Community College. Through Partnership East, you can begin your coursework at ECC and complete it through ECU.

  Reverse Transfer

  Students enrolled at one of the campuses of the University of North Carolina system, and who took community college classes, but didn’t complete a degree, may be eligible for Reverse Transfer.  With Reverse Transfer, coursework taken at the four-year institution can be transferred back to the community college with the possibility of earning a community college degree after the fact.   UNCW PathWays

  Edgecombe Community College (ECC) has entered into an agreement with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) that enables ECC students to be guaranteed admission into UNCW once they complete their ECC degree. This program will provide interested students additional guidance from UNCW while they complete their ECC degree, making them better prepared once they attend UNCW. Participating students will be assigned a UNCW Transfer Student Success Advisor to help guide them while completing coursework at ECC. Eligible students who participate are guaranteed admission to UNCW once they complete the Associate of Arts or the Associate of Science degree at ECC with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in transferable college-level ECC coursework. Admission to particular programs or professional schools at UNCW is not covered under this agreement. ECC students interested in this program must complete a UNCW PathWays Interest Form. Students who enter UNCW under the agreement, having graduated with the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees, will receive a waiver of Foundations and Approaches & Perspective requirements (with the exception of PE, foreign language, and 3 credits from Living in Our Diverse Nation or Living in a Global Society).
